Gradients and Textures

Printer Friendly

This Tech Tip is designed to aid you in adding gradients and textures to vector objects. A gradient is simply the fading from one color into another. Multiple kinds of textures can be added to give your graphic a little more depth.

To add a gradient to an object, first create a vector object. Under the fill section of the properties box, you can add a gradient by clicking the drop down menu next to the selected color. In that drop down menu you have multiple gradients you can apply. A linear gradient will make straight lined gradients, radial will make circular, ellipses elliptical, rectangles rectangular, etc. Once you have chosen a gradient you can change colors, add colors, delete them, etc. Just click on the color box and then, along the top shown gradient, to add another color to the gradient, click below the bar where you want it (a "+" sign will appear next to the mouse cursor). You can click on the colors to edit the color or drag the boxes to change the lengths of the gradients, etc. To delete a color, simply drag the box into the gradient preview and it will delete it.

Applying a texture to a vector object will give you're object more detail. To add a texture to fill, click in the drop down menu under the Edge options and select which texture you would like to apply. You can change the intensity of the texture in the menu directly to the left (0 to 100).

You can also combine these to make cool combinations, such as the logo for this Tech Tip. As always, to better understand these features experiment with them!
