Batch Processing Logo


In this tech tip, I will show you how to batch process images. Batch processing is used to change multiple pictures to the same settings. First you will need to find the pictures you will batch process. Then you will need to open Fireworks and got to file, batch process. As shown in the picture below.

How to get to Batch Process

It should show you a page that will ask what pictures you would like to batch process. Go to where the pictures you would like to batch process are located on your computer and add those pictures like shown below.

Then it should bring you to a page that will ask you what you want to do to the pictures you have selected. Here is that page.

Exporting makes your selected pictures a certain file type. Gif files are for pictures with fewer colors. Jpeg files are for pictures taken by a digital camera or realistic with more colors. Bitmaps are jpeg files just bigger files that are not editable and have a good picture quality. When you make a fireworks image it is saved as a Png by default. Pngs are the most editable format for pictures in fireworks. To work with the exporting tool you must first double click on export and then go to the drop down menu and select the desired format for your picture.


How to select Export


Scaling provides you with the ability to change the size of your picture. In order to do this double click on scale and go to the drop down menu and select the desired way to change the size of the picture. Scaling to size you will enable you to select the exact size you desire (defining it a variable will keep the same proportions).

Find and replacing will find any edits you have made to your picture you have selected and it will change it to the settings you select. Finding and replacing can be selected by double clicking find and replace and then clicking the edit… box.

Renaming gives you the ability to add a prefix or suffix to the name of the picture. You can change these setting by double clicking on Rename and clicking on the drop down menu and selecting how you want to change the name of the picture and the put what you want the prefix or suffix in the space provided.

Convert to gray scale makes make the picture only into black and white. To select this conversion you must click the plus sign (+) next to commands and then double click on convert to gray scale.

How to select Gray scale

Convert to sepia tone is another variation of the gray scale. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click convert to Sepia Tone instead.

Distribute to layer put all the edits into its own layer that you can lock and unlock. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click Distribute to Layers instead.

Hide other layers hides all layer but the web layer. You can make that layer come back by clicking on the eye. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click Hide Other Layers instead.

Lock other layers locks all the layers so you cannot edit them unless you unlock them to unlock them you must click on the pad lock in the layers panel. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click Lock Other Layers instead.

How to lock an Image

1024x768 makes the picture that size because it is usually a dimension that wallpaper would be sized. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click 1024 x 768 instead.

1280x1024 makes the picture that size because it is usually a dimension that wallpaper would be sized. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click 1280 x 1024 instead.

800x600 makes the picture that size because it is usually a dimension that wallpaper would be sized. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click 800 x 600 instead.

Save panel Layout saves all your setting on that picture so when you batch process that picture can hold as somewhat of a template so you don't have to make all those adjustments again. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click Save Panel Layout instead.

Reset warning dialogs resets all your options that you said never show again on the selected pictures so that they will show again. To select it you will do the same as convert to gray scale but double click Reset Warning Dialogs instead.
