How
do I register?
Registration
on the Noiz Message Boards requires that you fill out a short form,
with which WebCrew can verify your identity, and send you your activation
notice. The fields to fill out include your first and last names,
the type of member you will be, your ID number (if you are a student),
your birthday, your e-mail address, and your username and password.
Each field is fully explained on the form itself (there has been
some concern regarding the fact that birthdays are required entries
- don't worry, birthdays are only taken so that Noiz can wish you
a Happy Birthday when the day arrives). No personal information
will be used to sell, market, or spam. When you are finished filling
out the form, click the "submit" button to send your registration
request to WebCrew. We will evaluate your information, and send
you a notice if your registration has been accepted and activated.
WebCrew generally activates valid registrations within 24 hours
of submission (except on non-school days).

registration form, click

Once
I'm activated, how do I get in?
When
your account is activated, you will receive an e-mail which includes
a welcome message, a link to the Acceptable
Use Policy, your username, and information on how to re-select
a password if you have forgotten or wish to have a different one.
If you cannot remember your password, follow the instructions in
the activation notice. Once you have your username and password,
follow the instructions below to get in:
1. Scroll
to the top of any page within ZBTHS.org.
2. Locate the Noiz login area, at the top-right of every page
(it is marked by a small Noiz "N").
3. Enter your username into the box below the words "user"
and your password into the box below the words "pass."
4. Click the GO button, or press the enter key on your keyboard.

Help!
I forgot my password! - or - I want to change my password!
If
you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions in your
activation notice (e-mail), or try to log into Noiz (leave your
password blank) and follow the link that results. The link in your
e-mail (or the link that shows up when you don't enter your password
correctly) will bring you to a page that will e-mail a new password
to you. This password is a bunch of numbers that you will quickly
forget - so...
To change your
password once you have the temporary number password, log in with
that number password, and click on "usercp" (which stands
for User Control Panel) in the gray tab at the top-right corner
of the Noiz window. Once the User Control Panel loads, click "Edit
Password" underneath the text that says "User Control
Panel for [your username]." Put in your current password (which
would be your temporary password), and then enter the new password
you would like twice below. WRITE YOUR NEW PASSWORD DOWN in a secure
area so that you do not have to go through this process again.
If you do not
have an e-mail address, come talk to us in the TechOffice after
school, and we can help you change your password.
Please note
that WebCrew members, or any other members, do not have access to
passwords (they are encrypted by the message board software). All
we can do is give you a new one. |

What
is considered acceptable conduct?
To
know exactly what rules you are agreeing to follow by using Noiz,
and the consequences of abusive behavior, click on the Acceptable
Use Policy. Some general guidelines:
1. You may
not use inappropriate language on the message board. This includes
cussing, and all use of hateful or derogatory language. YOU MAY
NOT ATTEMPT TO CIRCUMVENT THE SWEAR FILTER.
2. You may
not attempt to disable any part of the message board. If you see
an area that seems vulnerable to manipulation, please notify us
immediately: noiz@zbths.net.
3. Do not
spam the message board with irrelevant messages. Your messages
can be very short, but they must serve a legitimate purpose.
4. Be
careful. Do not give out personal information - remember,
anyone can be a member of this message board and view that information.
(The message board will be moderated, but we cannot be responsible
for any consequences that come about by your posting of personal
information). Generally, e-mail addresses are OK for posting.
But be careful.
5. Do not
post the personal information of any school or community member
on the message board without his/her consent.
6. Avoid using
ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for extended amounts of time (more than a
sentence).
7. All school
rules apply.
8. Repeated
violations of the above rules will result in expulsion from the
Noiz Message Boards. Serious offenders may face serious consequences,
as outlined in the Policy.

Is
my personal information protected by Noiz?
The
answer is, basically, yes. Noiz is moderated by WebCrew members,
designated Faculty, and any Faculty browsing the message board.
Therefore, if personal information is posted by other users about
you, it is highly likely that it will be deleted by moderators.
However, there will be a delay between the time when a user posts
sensitive information, and when a moderator will likely read, recognize,
and respond accordingly. This means the personal information will
be temporarily available. If you have accidentally posted sensitive
information about yourself, you may edit
your message to delete the information. Also, see rules 4 &
5 above.
Note: Other
Noiz members automatically know two things about you when you post:
your username and your member type (student, parent, etc.).
Note: : ZBTHS
will not spam you or otherwise abuse your personal information.
If you believe that ZBTHS has abused your personal information,
call (847) 731-9770. |

I
tried to post a message, but it says I'm logged out!
Don't worry - you didn't do anything wrong! Noiz has a five-minute
limit to periods of inactivity. Because Noiz considers typing inactivity
(you aren't loading anything), it will log you out if you take more
than five minutes. So, there are several options to solve this problem.
One is to just type your message in Word, and then log into Noiz
and paste your message from Word into the message board. The other
method is described below.
If you try to
submit your message, and are told that you are not logged in, then:
- Click the
Back button to get back to the message you were typing.
- Select the
entire message, and copy it (hold down the Control key and tap
the C key).
- Scroll back
to the top of the webpage, and re-log in to Noiz. You will be
delivered back to the message you were working on, but the text
will be gone. So,
- Paste the
message back in (hold down the Control key and tap the V key).
- Re-type your
Subject, and click the Submit button.

So, you wanna know more, eh?

every question under the sun - from user maintenance and board usage
questions to message reading and posting questions. It'll even let
you know "Why
have some of the words in my post been blanked out?" |
