Core Attributes of New Tech High

Small School Learning Environment

    • August 08 – 100 Freshman, adding a class of 100 students each subsequent year for a total enrollment of 400, 9-12 grade students
    • Small, personalized learning environments
    • Integration and cooperation between curricular areas in team taught, blocked classes

High Expectations, with all Students Completing a Rigorous Course of Study

    • With parents and staff, students develop educational and career goals and monitor/refine these goals regularly
    • Students take responsibility and ownership for their learning, with collegial participation amongst peers
    • School culture that supports and maintains a professional learning community
    • Students demonstrating skill and process competencies through oral, written, and project – based outcomes

Building a Professional Culture of Trust and Responsibility Between Staff and Students

    • A school community that practices business protocols that reflect respect, professionalism, and collegiality
    • Mentor relationships between student and staff to establish learning goals and further academic, social, and emotional growth

Student Centered, Project Based Learning, Aligned with College Readiness Standards/Illinois Learning Standards and School Wide Learning Outcomes

    • Students prepare to be successful in anticipation of their college experience, vocational choice or military career

Infusion of Technology as a Tool for Learning

    • Acquisition of software, word-processing and multi-media skills to develop project outcomes and demonstrate learning
    • Real world projects that engage students in understanding and connecting how their learning is relevant to their lives

Partnerships with Parents, Higher Education, and Business

    • Student participation in service-based learning opportunities as well as community/business internships
    • Opportunity for students to earn dual course work credit with College of Lake County
