K. COLDER (RET) Senior Chief Colder is a native of Chester, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Chester High School, Chester, PA. In September 1975, Senior Chief Colder began his military career at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL. His assignments included: USS RALEIGH (LPD-1). After one year aboard RALEIGH, then Seaman Apprentice Colder qualified for the Yeoman rating and was issued orders to Yeoman “A” School, Meridian Mississippi. After completing Yeoman “A” School, he then was ordered to attend school at Keesler, Air Force Base for Chaplain Assistant, receiving the Navy Enlisted Classification YN 2525. His next set of orders was to the USS SHENANDOAH (AD-26), to serve as Operations Department Yeoman and Ship’s Chaplain Assistant. He was then ordered to Naval Air Station, Willow Grove, PA, Naval Weapons Station, Earl, NJ, He returned to Keesler, AFB to attend Religious Programs Specialist (RP) “C” School, and is a plank owner of the RP rating. He then was transferred to USS YELLOWSTONE (AD-41), in Norfolk, VA. He then was transferred to Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region Four, Philadelphia, PA. He temporarily ended his tour with the navy’s “blue-side” when ordered to Marine Air Group 39, Camp Pendleton, CA, which was fleeted up to the Fifth Marine Expeditionary Brigade embarked on USS TARAWA (LHA-1) deployed to the Persian Gulf War for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Afterwards, he transferred to 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton and was deployed to Operation Restore Hope, Somalia. He concluded his tour with the Marines at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA. Senior Chief Colder then transferred to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, where he assumed duties as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Command Chaplain. Senior Chief Colder began his Naval Career at Great Lakes, and in August of 2000 retired after 25 years of good service at Great Lakes, NTC. During this time he attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale to complete a degree in Workforce Education & Curriculum Development. Senior Chief Colder’s personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards). Senior Chief Colder is married to his high school sweetheart, and they have two sons.
