Freshman Year Timeline

All Year...

  • Do all your homework.
  • Earn the best grades you can earn.
  • Create a record of on time, daily attendance.
  • Build Character: get involved in community service, sports, or your church
  • Think about what you really enjoy doing. Discover your personal strengths!
  • All Semester grades from high school count toward admission to college.
  • Read the daily bulletin and check the ZBTHS.org web site for college information. Begin to develop a resume using career cruising software, and take the Career Cruising interest inventory.
  • Use the resources of the college/career center in Student Services during your study hall.

Sophomore Year Timeline

All Year...

  • Do all your homework
  • Earn good grades
  • Build a record of on time, daily attendance.
  • Get involved - community, arts, sports, etc.
  • Continue to demonstrate good character.
  • Update your resume and interest inventory using Career Cruising software.
  • Review curriculum choices. Are you on track for graduation? Continue to take the most challenging courses in which you can be successful!
  • Selective colleges want to see 5 core courses a year!
  • Attend "Rep-A-Rama" College Admissions representatives visits in student services. See the secretary in Student Services to get a pass to attend the college visit of your choice.
  • Read the daily bulletin and the ZBTHS.org web site for college information, "Rep-A-Rama" visits.
  • Use the resources of the college/career center during your study hall.

October

  • PSAT/NMSQT administered on campus.
  • Attend CLC College Fair and ZBTHS College Admissions Seminar.
  • See your counselor!

Summer

  • Visit colleges in our regional area.

Junior Year Timeline

All Year...

  • Stay focused and study hard to earn good grades
  • Your junior year is the most important year on your transcript!
  • Be active in extracurricular clubs, sports, the arts, and community service.
  • Continue to demonstrate good character.
  • Attend "Rep-A-Rama" College Admissions representatives visits in student services. See the secretary in Student Services to get a pass to attend the college visit of your choice.
  • Read the daily bulletin and the ZBTHS.org web site for college information, "Rep-A-Rama" visits.
  • Use the resources of the college/career center during your study hall.
  • Review curriculum choices
  • Begin to think about your "ideal" college: size, geographical location, public vs. private college, cost factors, etc.
  • See your counselor often during junior year!!

October

  • Attend CLC College Fair and ZBTHS college admissions fair.
  • Take the PSAT
  • Attend ZBTHS College Admissions Seminar

February-March

  • Attend Financial Aid Workshop at ZBTHS
  • With your counselor's help, refine your college selection criteria
  • Develop an exploratory list of colleges to research.
  • Add to and refine your resume.

April

  • Take ACT and PSAE
  • These tests are very important!! Do your best!!!
  • Continue to research and edit your list of colleges
  • Use Spring Break to visit colleges on your own

May and June

  • Take the SAT I or SAT II subject tests, if you need these tests for your intended college. Very selecting colleges may require the SAT II subject tests.

Summer

  • College visits - see as many colleges as you plan to apply to!! Visit!! Visit!! Visit!!
  • Enroll in a college course on the campus you most want to attend.
  • Have a summer job.
  • Continue to volunteer for community service.
  • Update your resume with summer activities.

Remember! Fall semester of your senior year you will apply to Colleges. Plan to see your Counselor often!!

Senior Year Timeline

All year...

  • First semester - apply and get admitted to college. Second semester - work on getting scholarships and financial aid.
  • Study for your best grades!
  • Stay involved and be a good role model for all ZBTHS students!
  • Daily, read the ZBTHS bulletin and ZBTHS.org web site for college information.
  • Use the resources of the college/career center in Student Services during your study hall.
  • Attend "Rep-A-Rama" College Admissions representatives visits in student services. See the secretary in Student Services to get a pass to attend the college visits of your choice.
  • See your counselor often during senior year!

August

  • Review the college application process from start to finish
  • Develop your final list of colleges
  • Request applications and apply to a minimum of three colleges. One of these colleges should be CLC. CLC is an excellent "safety" school.
  • Be careful of deadlines.
  • Evaluate the need for teacher recommendations and make requests. Remember to give teachers two to three weeks to write these letters for you.

Register for fall testing: SAT I, SAT II, ACT, if you need to take these tests.

September-December

  • Attend "Rep-A-Rama" often. These are great opportunities to have one on one conversations with admissions staff from colleges here at the ZBTHS Student Services Center!
  • Attend CLC College Fair and ZBTHS College Admissions Seminar.
  • Continue the college application process.
  • Follow up with teachers on recommendations that you have requested.
  • Plan overnight visits to colleges on your final list.
  • Keep your resume updated.
  • As you complete your college applications in September and October, begin to search for scholarships. Read the daily bulletin and ZBTHS.org web site to learn about specific scholarships available.
  • Deadline for early decision and some scholarships will be as early as November.
  • Each completed application must be turned in to the counseling office at least two weeks before the deadline!

January-February

  • Finish your college applications, if you have not already done so.
  • Continue to study hard and earn good grades.
  • Colleges will request an update on your 7th semester grades.
  • Attend the Financial Aid Workshop or ZBTHS.
  • Check the daily bulletin and ZBTHS.org web site for scholarship information.
  • Complete and turn in applications for local scholarships.
  • Fill out the FAFSA form as soon as possible after January 1st!

March-April

  • College response letters will arrive.
  • The college financial aid office is the best source for the most money to help with college expenses.
  • Keep up the hard work and maintain your grades!

May

  • National Student Reply Day is May 1st.
  • You must notify the college of your choice that you are coming and inform the others that you are not. Continue to work with the financial aid office of the college of your choice.
  • Prepare well for your final exams and Advance Placement exams.

Congratulations... After your ZBTHS graduation, you will be on your way to a life changing experience - your college days! Make the most of it! Best wishes!!!
