1. The laptop is available whenever needed at school, as opposed to the regular class where computer time is scheduled. The laptop is also available at home for student and family learning opportunities.
2. Through regular use, students will achieve a high level of expertise in using software applications that will provide marketable skills in the information technology field.
3. The laptop becomes the student’s paper, pencil, and communication tool.
4. Ownership of the laptop fosters student independence, commitment, and responsibility.
5. Use of the laptop motivates and focuses student learning.
6. New challenges will be offered to students who benefit from a more hands-on learning environment that emphasizes problem solving and integration of subject matter.
7. Academy teachers are also the students’ advisors, creating a more personal relationship with students and their parents/guardians.
8. Academy teachers are specially trained in computer use and software applications in the classroom.
9. As a result of teachers and students working in teams, where knowledge and skills from many subjects are represented, students will achieve a better understanding of how these subjects relate to each other and to real life.
10. Unique elective opportunities exist through business internships, job shadowing, senior projects, and training for computer technical support certification.
